Darren Finn-Hurst

Darren, our Development Manager, shows his broad taste in
theatre by choosing two very different productions with one common
factor - theatrical originality! |
Stomp
at The Ambassadors Theatre is ideally located to the
4* Radisson Edwardian Mountbatten, just a few minutes walk
away. Youll just want to bang dustbin lids on the way back to
the hotel remember to keep the noise down! If you are looking
for a pre theatre meal, then Incognico would be a great choice.
This restaurant offers a choice of courses and a drink is included in
the price.
The
39 Steps at the Criterion Theatre on Piccadilly Circus
itself, is only a few minutes walk from the 5*
Le Meridien Hotel on Piccadilly. It is great value for money
and the hotel offers afternoon tea and pre-theatre meals as well. |
Patti Murphy

Patti Murphy knows that 9 times out of 10, what is required on a
theatre break is a great musical. Here she has chosen three -
something old, something new and something borrowed - but fortunately
nothing blue! |
Enjoy a
deluxe break for a deluxe show at Mamma
Mia. Stay at five
star Le Meridien Hotel and have their delicious pre-theatre
meal in the delightful Terrrass Restaurant. Walk up Piccadilly
and past Eros and feel in the centre of a vibrant West End of
London. Try Ripleys just up the road either next day or the
afternoon before just to complete the experience.
Stay
at the
three star Thistle Piccadilly Hotel within a short
walk of the theatre to go to see and feel the rhythm,
passion and excitement of Zorro
which is a show which offers everything. Have a pre
theatre meal at Salieri's in the Strand in their delightful theatre
orientated restaurant, who will always make you feel very
welcome. For something very different go on a duck tour during
your stay.
Stay
at the Corus
Hyde Park Hotel, just three stops on the central line
tube from Oxford Circus where Sound
of Music is playing, overlooking Hyde Park for that
Sunday morning walk, with pre theatre meal in Masala Zone
Restaurant near London Palladium. Go on the London Eye to see
London from above in all its glory. |

Sara Benn

Sara Benn is our Groups and Corporate consultant. As a proper actress
in her time it is now surprise that she has chosen to great plays
(and done them in style by chosing two great central (but still quite
affordable 5 star hotels.
|
Following
the current trend for the Hollywood elite to tread the West End
boards, the smouldering Josh Hartnett makes his stage debut in the
engaging and very moving play 'Rainman'
currently showing at the Apollo Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue. Harnett
performs the part of the self-obsessed Charlie Babbit competently,
but it must be said that Adam Godley playing Charlie's brother
Raymond (aka Rainman) steals the show and the laugh out loud
moments. It is a very well written script and transfer to the stage
easily without the audience feeling robbed of some of the big-budget
film sequences.
Seeing Rainman at the Apollo, you are ideally located for an
excellent 2 or 3 course pre-theatre meal at the newly opened Chez
Gerard in Rupert Street two minutes walk away.
Recommended hotels would either be the 5
star luxury of Le Meridien Piccadilly or newly refurbished
Radisson Edwardian Marlborough both within walking distance of the
theatre and a number of London's top attractions.
Now in it's 56th year boasts the publicity... it took me 41 years
before I finally caught up with Mousetrap.
The Mousetrap is one of those plays that I wish I had seen many
moons ago and one that I certainly would be able to sit through
again. I've even forgotten "whodunit" because there
are so many twists and turns. Excellently staged and performed with
the right amount of comedy and bump-in-the-night moments.
For a sumptuous 3 course pre-theatre meal which includes a glass of
champers, I would recommend Incognico in Shaftesbury Avenue, 5
minutes walk north of the St Martin's Theatre.
My hotel recommendation would be either the stylish and unique 5
star Courthouse Hotel in Great Marlborough Street - nestled
in-between Oxford & Carnaby Streets for all those shopaholics out
there or the 3 star St Giles Hotel situated on the north side of New
Oxford Street again ideal for Oxford Street and the British Museum
which stand behind it. |
Antoio Campanella

Antonio is our groups manager and there is little wonder that he has
selected three productions, so popular with many groups, for
their wide range of appeal. |
Joseph
is a fantastic family show and has consistently been one of the West
End's top musicals since its return in 2007. As with any Andrew Lloyd
Webber production, you expect a high quality show and this production
keeps that tradition. Much of the success is also down to lead actor
Lee Mead, the performer who was catapulted to stardom via the BBC's
"Any dream will do". A great show for all ages. Situated on
the Strand, the 3*
Strand Palace hotel is the ideal hotel for those going to
see Joseph. Just a few minutes walk, this hotel is in a top location
for those wishing to explore London's shops and cafes. For a pre/post
theatre meal I would highly recommend Salieri theatre restaurant also
situated on the Strand. This family run restaurant is ideal for those
wishing to dine in comfort at an affordable price. Great for families.
One of London's top shows, Phantom
of the Opera has been running in the West End for a
staggering 22 years and still manages to be sold out on most nights!
Andrew Lloyd Webber's hugely popular production still captivates
audiences of all age groups. A must see. If seeing this production I
would highly recommend the 4*
Chesterfield hotel in Mayfair. Situated in Mayfair, this
luxurious hotel is ideal for those wishing to stay in style.
Approximately 15 minutes walk to Her Majesty's theatre. In the heart
of Mayfair, Chez Gerard restaurant in Dover Street reflects all that
is best about French cuisine, transporting customers back in time to
the Brasserie of 1930's Paris, where friends, family and good food
and drink was all that mattered. The restaurant also has a Terrace
which is open in the summer months and guests can dine in style with
spectacular views of London.
By far London's most scary show, Woman
In Black still manages to scare audiences since it's
opening in the West End over 20 years ago. Adapted from the novel by
Susan Hill and excellently staged, it is very clever in it's concept.
This production plays on the audiences' imagination and fears and
does not relinquish it's sense of heightened fear until the curtain
finally falls. This dark and atmospheric play is by far my favourite
show in London. Not for those of a nervous disposition! Ideally
situated in the Holborn area and just a few minutes walk from the
Fortune theatre, the
four star Kingsway Hall Hotel would be a great choice for
those seeing the Woman in Black. Situated in the heart of London's
fashionable Covent Garden this hotel is great for those wishing to
explore London's great variety of shops and boutiques. Bertorelli
restaurant in Floral street is a great choice for those wanting to
dine nearby. The chic and stylist restaurant offers a more formal
dining experience serving classic Italian dishes from the a' la carte
menu. Ideally situated on the doorstep of Covent Garden's world
famous Piazza. |

Rebecca Lawrence

Rebecca is our newest consultant but she has already made a name for
herself for loving those really lively shows which guarantee a truly
great night out. |
I
would recommend going to see La
Clique for a fun packed evening. This hip circus is a
stylish blend of saucy burlesque, fairground freak show, stupendous
stunts and cool comic cabaret. The Hippodrome has been reinvented as
a louche Big Top with two bars servicing an audience who sit right
round the action. The hotel I would recommend would be The
5* Luxury Westbury Hotel located in exclusive Mayfair. The
hotel is modern, yet luxurious and the highly trained concierge will
be at your beck and call. So for a break with luxury, comfort and
many laughs this is the break for you.
A
lively show based on the classic film with lots of great sing-a-long
songs. Grease
is a fantastic family night out for all to enjoy. With great
performances and acting skills from all of the cast, this is not one
to be missed. No matter what night you go on you will be up out of
your seats dancing and singing along the whole way through. It is
fortunate that the le
Meridien, Picadilly is a 5 star luxury hotel is therefore
nice and close. The staff are dedicated to meeting the customers
needs. The rooms are luxurious with marble bathrooms, 24 hour room
service, satellite TV and complimentary newspaper. Its famous Terrace
Restaurant and the largest in London indoor pool and spa it is a
perfect treat for anyone.
A
classic love story with upbeat songs everyone knows the words to.
Excellent choreography and slicker dance moves than strictly come
dancing, Dirty
Dancing is a must see. I would recommend staying at the Kingsway
Hall Hotel. This elegant 4 star hotel is a perfect location
for Theatre Land and very close to the Aldwych and London's fantastic
attractions. The sumptuous rooms include satellite TV and mini bar
and are elegantly decorated in warm colours. Perhaps after a hard
days shopping unwind in the jacuzzi and spa. |
Natasha Ryan
Natasha, one of Theatre Breaks Consultants, has picked three of the
biggest, most spectacular musicals in the West End, and, as such,
three of our most popular shows. |
The
Lion King is a visually amazing show. No expense has
been spared when it comes to the costumes or the set not to mention
the fantastic animals that make up the cast. The storyline follows
the film precisely ensuring that no part of this family favourite is
forgotten or left out. The vocals are breathtaking. You and your
family will be entertained throughout. The
Radisson Edwardian Grafton provides accommodation for
families, depending on availability. This is the perfect choice for a
family outing!
Wicked
is an exciting musical straight from Broadway, it focuses on the much
feared Wicked witches and tells the real story behind them. The
costumes and set are fantastic not to mention the songs and dancing.
This musical is fun for the whole family with jokes that translate
across the ages.
Why not make it a romantic weekend away by staying in the elegant four
star Rubens At The Palace Hotel. If you view a matinee
performance you have the whole evening to take in the sights and
sounds of London. Why not hop on the tube to Covent Garden for a meal
in any of our top quality restaurants. I highly recommend
Salieris for their varied menu, excellent service and
flamboyant surroundings!
Are
you part of the glam rock generation? Do you remember when music
meant powerful vocals and an electric guitar? If the answer is yes
then this is the musical for you. It is a light-hearted story set in
the future, a future where instruments and individualism are banned. We
Will Rock You is full of classic Queen hits and powerful
vocals. The music is excellent and is always performed live with the
band rocking in the wings. This is definitely a fun night out so make
it a group and stay in the Radisson
Edwardian Marlborough Hotel, that is only a breath away from
the theatre and a short stroll from the bars and restaurants of
Covent Garden and Leicester Square. |
|
Jo Osborn
Jo is our Reservations Manager and demonstrates here her broad
tastes with a classic, musical a new super-hit and possibly the
finest trilogy of comedies by our greatest comic writer. |
A
great hotel to stay in if your seeing Les
Miserables is the 3*
Royal Trafalgar as It's JUST around the corner near the
iconic Trafalgar square. What is even better is they have the Squares
Restaurant, recently awarded a coveted AA Rosette, where you can have
a pre/post-theatre meal.
Hairspray
is a fun, lively show which I think has been brilliant coming to the
west end last year. So if your seeing a new production why not stay
in a new hotel too? The
4* Grange Beauchamp. A new addition to the Grange Hotels
portfolio and a lovely setting on Bedford Place. Better still its
walking distance to the theatre and Oxford Street for shopping!
The Old Vic Theatre, where Norman
Conquests are showing, is in Waterloo so I suggest the four
star Guoman Charing Cross Hotel because it's only one stop
on the Bakerloo or Northern Line. We get great deluxe room rates and
it's nearby to Salieri's Theatre Restaurant which is great for a
pre-theatre meal and located right on the strand. |
Mel Wiseman

The three musicals that Theatre Breaks Consultant Mel has chosen are
all showing in and around Soho, one of the livliest spots in London
West End and great for nearby pre-theatre dining. |
Why
not come come down to London Town to see Monty
Python's Spamalot, a show that will have you dying of
laughter! Spamalot is penned by the Monty Python gang, who brought us
timeless comedy classics such as The Holy Grail and the Life of
Brian! This musical is loosely based on their previous works and is
by far the funniest show in the West End! And while you're down here,
why not check in the Radisson
Edwardian Kenilworth Hotel, a leisurely 15 minute walk away
from the theatre. The hotel is beautiful and the staff are very
welcoming. And on your way to the theatre, stop off at the British
History Musuem and a shop on Oxford Street! All this starts from
£94 per person!
Oh
what a night it will be when you see Jersey
Boys! Jersey Boys is by far one of the best musicals in
London: you won't be able to take your eyes off the stage
and will be begging for the show never to end! (note my
clever references!). The theatre is in Soho, one of the liveliest
parts of the Capital and I've had a good few nights out there! I'd
start off with some French Cuisine, at the <A href="http://www.theatrebreaks.com/Chez-Gerard--Rupert-Street-London.aspx">Chez
Gerard in Rupert Street</A>, then head down to the show.
Afterwards, have a few post theatre drinks and then lay your head
down in the 5*
Courthouse Hotel, which is by far the coolest and most
historically interesting hotels in London, not to mention the bar
that's now in the prison cells! <A href="https://www.theatrebreaks.com/Booking/Show.aspx?HotelID=946&ShowID=1018">Book
this entire break</A>, including bed, full breakfast, best
seats, 3-course, pre-theatre meal, service and VAT, now from £190
per person (based on two people sharing a double room).
Blood
Brothers is one of my favourite musicals. A romantic and
yet tragic story, that always has me crying at the end! To start off
the evening I would walk along Oxford Circus and have a nose at the
shops and stop off for a lovely <A href="http://www.theatrebreaks.com/Bertorelli-Restaurant--Frith-Street-London.aspx"
linktype="link" track="on">Italian meal at
Bertorelli's</A>, which is only a few minutes walk away from
the theatre. After the show you could hit a few pubs, there's plenty
to choose from, or call it a night at the traditional 4*
Rathbone Hotel, again only a few minutes walk away - its a
traditional hotel with a homely feel. <A href="https://www.theatrebreaks.com/Booking/Show.aspx?HotelID=905&ShowID=998"
linktype="link" track="on">Pre-book your
dinner / theatre / accommodation / breakfast
package</A> from £129 per person inc. service
and VAT (based on 2 people sharing a double room). |
